Vision Clinic Report from Monday

Day 4 on the mission field was Monday. We arrived at Villa del Carmen at 9:45 in plenty of time to set up the eye clinic by 10. There were 20+ people waiting for us! While some organized the glasses, others prepared to present the Gospel to those waiting for glasses. And that is the way it worked for hours. We're not quite sure how many came through the clinic by the time we finished! The Gospel was presented, many accepted and then they came in for glasses. All of the Nicaraguans seemed so appreciative of the glasses, especially the older ones. Their looks were priceless as they looked at the paper we used to assess the strength of glasses they needed, then we had them look again with the correct glasses on! I remember having that feeling of finally being able to see when I got my glasses. You don't realize how wonderful it is to see, until it happens to you! Many decisions were made. Many eyes were opened in more ways than one!

Just a bit about today ... we were able to go into a school and speak with over 600 students. What an opportunity!! What is wrong with the United States, we can't even do that in our own homeland ... God help us!

Day 4 (in the field) Villa el Carmen

Today was an AUsome day. We had the eyeglass clinic today. We arrived at about 9:45 and began to set up. Before we could get set up we probably had about 30 people waiting to be helped. Bro. Tim spoke to them and let them know that we had plenty glasses and all would be helped. He told them that we wanted to not only help them see better physically, but also spritually. He told them that before we helped them with glasses that we wanted to share with them. So we broke them into groups and shared Jesus with them. This started at around 10 and continued until 1... solid. We had a chance to share with so many people and many accepted Christ as their savior. It was amazing. Most of us then left and went to a different part of the city to promote our movie for the night. Mrs LeAnn, Mrs Karen, and Mr Frank stayed behind and continued to help people with glasses. We picked them back up at about 3. We don't have a number yet of how many people we helped today, but it was a lot. Just pray that those that accepted Christ, would be genuine. And that those that were not ready, that someone would come behind us and maybe the seeds that we planted would be ready for harvest soon.

In Christ,
Steven

God's Amazing Grace

Jonathan Weaver, Karis West and I visited with a young mother on Sunday morning. Initially, she appeared uninterested, but we could tell she was listening. We continued to share with her. When we came to the point of explaining how we came to know of God's amazing gift of complete and eternal forgiveness, we saw her attention become more focused on what we were saying. We prayed for her and asked if she would like to receive God's forgiveness she said yes, but still had a sad look on her face. After we opened our eyes from her prayer, we could literally see a complete difference in her appearance. We all had goose-bumps all over. The three of us walked away from the encounter changed ourselves. You can't leave a situation like this and not be affected in a huge way. For everyone in our church, please consider going on a mission trip. It will literally change your life as well as those you minister to.

Day 2 (in the field) - Team San Diego

This was our last day at San Diego. We had eyeglass clinic starting at 9:30 and lasting until 11:30. We actually got there at around 10 and started the clinic. We probably gave away around 50 pairs of glasses to people ranging for young to old. We stopped the eyeglass clinic at around 12:00 to eat lunch. By the time we finished our lunch, a crowd had gathered that wanted eyeglasses. So we opened the suitcase up again and helped that group as well by giving them eyeglasses.

We also had a ladies Bible study and childrens games that started at 3:00. We decided to spend a little time in door to door visitation to remind everyone about these events. So around 1:00 we left our area that we had set up in to do the eyeglass clinic and started going door to door. We split up into 2 teams so we could cover more area. We only had 2 interpreters, 1 of which had to stay with Mrs. LeAnn doing the eyeglass clinic. That left us only one to go with 2 groups. That presented a problem. So we had to call on our summer missionary Austin Barnett to interpret for one of the groups. He has learned so much since he has been here. He interpretted for one group and a guy name Harry interpretted for the other. We basically just went back to houses that we had shared with on day 1, this time just chatting with them and inviting them to events. We covered the area and decided to get the truck and drive down the road to visit some houses that we had not visited. We had time to visit about 3 houses and since we had not visited them before, we shared the gospel. While sharing, we had 7 professions of faith (PRAISE THE LORD). The people here are so receptive to the Word of God. After this, we had to rush back to be there in time for the afternoon events.

Mrs. LeAnn lead the ladies Bible study. We had excellent turn out for this event. The ladies came out in great number for such a small area. We had around 40 ladies show up for the study. I was not there because one group of us was playing:-) with kids that is.

We had the childrens games at the same time as the Bible study. Me being working in AWANA, I had decided to bring some AWANA game equipment with us on the trip. We had bowling pins, bean bags, and batons. We made a make-shift AWANA circle and played AWANA games. We had great turn out from the kids. We probably had about 30 kids show up to play games. We had relay races, bean bag tosses, and even played some kick ball. They all had so much fun, so did they group that was playing with them. We had Bro Chris, Austin, Alyssa, Jonathon, and myself (Steven). It was AUsome.

We finally wrapped up the kids stuff and the ladies stuff and started getting ready for the movie we were going to show tonight. It was titled "With whom will you go"? or something like that. It really is a good movie to show. I don't want to spoil it for you, but since you will never watch it I'm sure, the mother accepts Christ, then the children, and thru patience and prayer, finally the father does. It's a great movie to show and end up with a gospel presentation. I don't know if we had any decisions tonight because we have not had a chance to go thru the cards, but I'm sure there were at least seeds planted. We probably had about 60 people show up for the movie.

Well Bro. Chris is ready to go to bed and so am I. We have to be back up in about 6 hours. Bro Tim is driving us like rented mules. Please continue to pray for us and pray that God would be glorified in all that we do and say.

In Christ,
Steven
